Admission Information

Admission to Primary Phase

At present the school has a standard admission number of 45 per year group. Parents wanting a place for their child should contact Pupil Admissions at the Education Office or come into the school office to collect a form which will need returning to Pupil Admissions (Telephone numbers - 0114 2930418 or 0114 2735766). If there are places available - Pupils Admissions will then contact the school and following that the school will contact the prospective parents of the child to make arrangements to visit the school.

Transfer from Year 6 to Hinde House

In September each year there is an open evening for prospective pupils and parents. Pupils who already attend Hinde House Primary Phase are automatically allocated a place in Hinde House Secondary Phase and therefore do not need to make an application.

In July of each year the Year 6 pupils spend at least 7 days at Hinde House Secondary Phase taking lessons with both their own existing primary teachers and some secondary teachers. This provides a staged transition between the two phases and has proved to be a highly successful programme over the years.

Prospective parents are able to contact the school at any time for help and advice.

Admission to Secondary Phase

Hinde House is a 3-16 co-educational community comprehensive school. Our students come from Shiregreen, Upper and Lower Wincobank, Tinsley and Darnall areas. Most of our students come from our own Primary Phase, Concord, Limpsfield, Phillimore and Tinsley schools, but we also welcome students from Greenlands, Whiteways, Hatfield, Hucklow, Hartley Brook and Beck and further afield. We welcome students to the school regardless of their social, cultural or religious background and regardless of their ability.

At present the school has an admission limit of 160 places for Y7 pupils and 180 places for each year Y8 - Y11. Some students will already have a place in the secondary school because they are in our Primary Phase but there will be around 140 places for other students.

The Local Education Authority has an Admission Policy which is included in the ‘A Partnership with the Parents’ brochure. All parents are advised to read this when making their choice of secondary schools.
