Context
Hinde House 2–16 School proudly serves a diverse and vibrant community in the north-east of Sheffield, drawing pupils from Shiregreen, Darnall, Tinsley, and Wincobank. These areas face significant socio-economic challenges, with many families experiencing barriers related to income, employment, and access to services. In response, our inclusive and ambitious curriculum is designed to raise aspirations, create opportunities and improve life chances for all pupils. Our school reflects the rich cultural diversity in its community, with a high proportion of pupils from minority ethnic backgrounds and multilingual households. We celebrate this diversity through a curriculum that promotes global citizenship, tolerance, and respect. Nearly half of our pupils are eligible for free school meals, and we proudly host an integrated resourced provision for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ensuring that every child is supported to thrive.

Intent
Welcome to our Academy, where we offer a unique and seamless learning journey for students aged 2 to 16. Personal Development
Personal Development at Hinde House Academy is a cornerstone of our 2–16 provision, woven throughout an enriching curriculum that celebrates diversity, promotes aspiration, and nurtures character. Pupils engage with a wide range of success stories representing people from different backgrounds, helping them to see themselves reflected in the world and to broaden their horizons.
Our well-structured PSHCE programme supports pupils’ moral, social, emotional, and cultural development, covering key themes such as relationships, health, citizenship, and financial literacy. Personal development is further enhanced through opportunities for community volunteering, guest speakers, and real-world projects that connect pupils to local and global issues.
We maintain an open-door policy that encourages strong partnerships with families and the wider community, ensuring pupils benefit from a network of support and shared values. From early years to GCSE, our offer is designed to build resilience, empathy, and ambition preparing pupils to thrive as responsible, reflective citizens in modern Britain.
Pupil voice is central to our approach. Our strong Junior Leadership Team (JLT) plays an active role in shaping school culture, contributing to decision-making and championing student-led initiatives. In addition, our mixed staff and student Diversity & Inclusion groups work collaboratively to promote equity, representation, and belonging ensuring that every member of our school community feels seen, heard, and valued.

At Hinde House, we use the Read Write Inc. phonics programme to give every child the best start in learning to read and write. This structured approach helps children develop strong phonics skills by teaching them to decode words, blend sounds, and build fluency in reading. Through engaging lessons, children learn to read accurately and confidently, which supports their comprehension and enjoyment of books. Alongside reading, the programme also focuses on writing, enabling pupils to spell and compose sentences effectively. Our aim is to ensure that every child becomes a successful, enthusiastic reader and writer, laying the foundation for lifelong literacy.
