Possible Work Experience Placements
A Dedicated Careers Advisor works closely with senior staff responsible for Careers Education and Post-16 progression into further education, training or employment. The Careers Advisor also provides impartial 1:1 careers guidance to students and offer drop-in sessions if students wish to self- refer for advice on options, routes into further training and employment, such as A Levels, Apprenticeships or applications and interviews.

At Hinde House Academy our intent is to continue to embed CEIAG by having a careers programme in place which meet the requirements of the 8 Gatsby benchmarks, reviewed annually to ensure that it remains on target. It aims to raise the aspirations of all pupils whilst being tailored to individual needs, encouraging them to aim higher and to make choices relevant to what they feel they can achieve.
The aims of careers education at Hinde House are to:
- Prepare pupils for life post – education
- Develop an understanding of different career paths
- Develop understanding of the differences between school and work
- Inspire pupils to research and achieve their ambitions
- Help students to access information on the full range of post 16 education and training opportunities
- Support students after leaving school
- Offer targeted support for both vulnerable and disadvantaged young people
- Embed a healthy attitude towards future work
We offer opportunities to visit local businesses and industries, talk to employers during assemblies and enterprise workshops, and chances to try out a variety of taster sessions at local colleges and Universities.
HeppSY (Higher Education Progression Partnership South Yorkshire) is part of the Uni Connect Programme, funded by the Office for Students. HeppSY is a partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, the University of Sheffield, and South Yorkshire colleges and target schools. HeppSY works alongside Hinde House Academy enabling us to make strong links with the Universities of Sheffield and other universities. We are currently involved in many projects with HeppSY – HE Can, SHE Can, GOALs Breakfast club, Meta Method project.
The HeppSY programme aims to:
- Get students get to experience what HE is about.
- Opportunities to visit a range of universities.
- Gain career knowledge.
- Build academic confidence.
Dedicated Careers Advisor from Sheffield Futures, Aleeza Nowaz works closely with senior staff responsible for Careers Education and Post-16 progression into further education, training or employment. Aleeza also provides impartial 1:1 careers guidance to students and offer drop-in sessions if students wish to self- refer for advice on options, routes into further training and employment, such as A Levels, Apprenticeships or applications and interviews.
Students and parents/carers are given a range of opportunities to attend relevant Post-16 evenings, visits and interviews so they are ready to make the next important step when they leave school. Typically we have over 30 providers attend the Post-16 Open Evening event to provide support and guidance to students and parents/carers.
Our Careers programme is evaluated every year. The next evaluation will take place in July 2024, with a review against Gatsby Benchmarks every term. We will review what is working well and will identify areas that require further development so that we can continue to improve our practice and further strengthen our Careers programme.
We review all feedback from:
- Year 11 destination data.
- Questionnaires completed by students, staff and parents/carers.
- Student voice.
- Evaluation with our careers advisor.
- Evaluation of work experience.
LABOUR MARKET INFORMATION (LMI)
Labour Market Information (LMI) includes reports, studies, statistics and other information about:
- What skills and qualifications do you need for a specific job?
- How much can you earn in a job?
- Which employers are doing well?
- Which job sectors are growing?
- Which jobs need more people right now?
- Which jobs are in short demand?
- How many people are currently working in a specific job?
- How many people are likely to be working in that job in the future?
- Which jobs have a higher percentage of men or women?
- What routes did workers take to qualify for their careers?
