Careers and Work Experience

Hinde House Secondary School offers all students access to free and impartial careers education and guidance and opportunities to gain an understanding of the world of work.

Careers Education covers The 8 Gatsby Benchmarks, including the following aspects such as:

  • A Stable Careers Programme
  • Access to the labour market, courses, apprenticeships in the local area
  • Personalised careers profile
  • Links to Careers in all subjects
  • Encounters with local employers and employees
  • Work Experience.
  • Opportunities to visit Longley College and other providers of Higher and Further Education.
  • Personal guidance with a careers advisor.

We pride ourselves on offering a strong integrated offer of support to students which incorporates work both in tutor time, working on STEPS booklets and within the PSHE curriculum, in years 7-9. Years 10 and 11 are mainly focused upon detailed, structured preparation for work experience and college / apprenticeship applications and mentoring.

We offer opportunities to visit local businesses and industries, talk to employers during assemblies and enterprise workshops, and chances to try out a variety of taster sessions at local colleges and Universities.

Dedicated Careers Advisors from Sheffield Futures, Sara Roberts and Aleeza Nowaz work closely with senior staff responsible for Careers Education and Post-16 progression into further education, training or employment. They also provide 1:1 careers guidance to students and offer drop in sessions if students wish to self- refer for advice on options, routes into further training and employment, such as A Levels or Apprenticeships or applications and interviews.

Students and parents/carers are given a range of opportunities to attend relevant Post-16 evenings, visits and interviews so they are ready to make the next important step when they leave school. Typically we have over 30 providers attend the Post-16 Open Evening event to provide support and guidance to students and parents/carers.

Updates will be found here for academic year 2019-20.

  • Thurs 17th October Y8 Careers and Y11 Post 16 Evening
  • Whole school Careers Day: to be confirmed
