English Language

Department/subject info and philosophy:

English Language is a vital life skill that is transferable in all subjects and the wider world. We focus on developing literacy through exploring and analysing a range of fiction and non-fiction texts, enhancing both reading and writing skills. We are a passionate team and we aim to promote a love of literacy. Within our team we have a dynamic skill set and feel we deliver our lessons with an organic yet inclusive approach.

 Programme of study in Y7-Y9:

We aim to deliver a seamless transition from the start of year 7 engaging learners by building creativity and independence. At KS3 we explore texts from the last three centuries learning about the contexts and themes as well as analytical deconstruction. We aim to develop young writers who can express their creativity and viewpoint through the written word.

Programme of study Y10-Y11:

Students study the AQA English Language GCSE throughout KS4. The course requires the students to study Explorations in Creative Reading & Writing and Writers Perspectives and Viewpoints. Students are exposed to a range of unseen Fiction and Non-Fiction texts which they deconstruct and analyse. Both papers contain a writing element in which students craft pieces of creative and viewpoint writing.
