Department/subject info and philosophy:

The Computing and ICT department offers an exciting and dynamic learning environment. With the most up to date software and technology available.

The ICT curriculum offered at Hinde House Secondary is designed to give an in-depth knowledge and a wide range of ICT skills.

Programme of study in Y7-Y9:

KS3 Students will study:

Y7 – ICT – Rotation

Students are introduced to what computing is, some computing ideas, with demonstrations using Scratch and Kodu. How computer/information systems use input, processing and output. How different types of data - numbers, text, images, sound - are stored inside the computer

Y8 – Rotation – ICT

The students are introduced to software that enables them to manipulate images, create animations and videos.

Y9 – Rotation – ICT

The students increase their knowledge of Information communications technologies. Pupils work on various projects such as designing a computer graphics, modelling using spreadsheets and using Computer Aided Design tools.

Programme of study Y10-Y11:

Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Digital Information Technology

Students will explore what a user interface is and they will research different user interfaces.
They will learn about how user interfaces meets audience needs, skill level and demographics

Learn various techniques and how they allow different types of users to interact with the interfaces.

Students will prepare their internally assessed components 1 and 2 which the teacher will mark.

In Y11 students will study for their external assessment which is a 1hr 30min written examination. The assessment will test their ability to recall their knowledge they have gained in Y10 and Y11. The written assessment will apply the knowledge they have gained in realistic scenarios and situations.

Component 1 – Exploring User Interface Design Principles & Project Planning Techniques 30%

  • Explore user interface design and development principles.
  • Discover how to develop and review a digital user interface.
  • Investigate how to use project planning techniques to manage a digital project.

Component 2 – Collecting, Presenting and Interpreting Data 30%

  • Explore how data impacts on individuals and organisations.
  • Develop a dashboard using data manipulation tools.
  • Draw conclusions and make recommendations on data intelligence.

Component 3 - Effective Digital Working Practices 40%

  • Explore how modern information technology is evolving.
  • Understand what cyber security is and how to safeguard against it.
  • Consider legal and ethical issues in data and information sharing.
