Physical Education

Department/subject info and philosophy:

In physical education at Hinde House school, you will develop a scientific understanding of how sport, exercise and lifestyle effects the body. We will also work with you to improve your sporting performance and fitness.

Through studying Sport Science, you can become an Elite Athlete, Physiotherapist, PE Teacher, Sports Coach, Personal Trainer as well as many other professions.

Programme of study in Y7-Y9: 

In the Autumn Term at KS3, you will have the opportunity to participate in and represent the school in a variety of traditional team sports such as Football, Rugby, Netball and Hockey as well as Rounders, Athletics, Cricket and Softball in the Summer Term. Alternative activities such as Metafit Hitt Training, Touchball, Kick Golf and Extreme Frisbee are also included in the curriculum to provide all of our learners with a broad and varied experience.

Programme of study Y10-Y11:

In the Autumn Term at KS4, you will have the opportunity to participate and represent the school across a range of sports including Rugby, Hockey, Gymnastics, Trampolining and Handball as well as many other many other traditional sports.

In the Summer Term Cricket, Athletics, Softball, Tennis and Rounders are part of the broad and varied curriculum. To ensure the curriculum meets the needs of all learners, alternative activities are available throughout the year including Metafit Hitt Training, Table Tennis, Outdoor Adventurous Activities, Extreme Frisbee and Kick Golf.

GCSE/BTEC Exam information:

At KS4, you will study Level 2 OCR Cambridge National in Sport Science alongside GCSE PE.

The OCR Cambridge National in Sport Science helps students appreciate how sport science underpins sport at all levels. They learn about anatomy, physiology, injury prevention, improving personal fitness through appropriate training and diet, and the role of psychology in improving performance.

• Written Exam: 1 Hour
• 25% of the Cambridge National
• Centre assessed tasks
• 75% of the Cambridge National

The AQA GCSE in Physical Education specification is designed to teach students to evaluate performance and suggest plans for improvement. They also cover the benefits of healthy living alongside topics like the role of media in sport.

How its’ assessed

• Written Exam: 1 Hour 15 minutes
• 60% of the GCSE
• Practical performance in three different physical activities in the role of player/performer (one in a team activity, one in an individual activity and a third in either a team or in an individual activity).
• 40% of the GCSE
