Travel and Tourism
Department/subject info and philosophy:
Travel and Tourism is a level 2 BTEC qualification. It is an excellent vocational course for students who would like to work in tourism or the hospitality industry. This includes working for tour operators, airlines, hotels and leisure companies. The course offers a way of working where you can be independent and learn important skills employers are looking for such as time management and organisation
Programme of study in Y7-Y9:
This course is currently not offered in KS3
Programme of study Y10-Y11:
In Year 10 we teach Units 2 and 4.
Unit 2: UK Travel and Tourism Destinations:
• Travel and tourism destinations and transport
• Planning a trip in the UK
• Making a visitor guide for a UK destination
Unit 4: International Travel and Tourism:
• This follows the same format as Unit 2, but is based upon destinations in other parts of the world.
Unit 5: The Travel and Tourism Customer experience:
• Customer expectations
• Customer needs
• Customer service
Unit 1: The Travel and Tourism Industry (Exam):
• Types of tourism
• Organisations
• Technology
• Services
GCSE/BTEC Exam information:
This course is a BTEC and is therefore strongly weighted towards coursework.
The coursework elements are Units 2, 4 and 5.
There is a final exam worth (25%) as is on the Unit 1 specification.
