During the last term, a group of Y9 students took part in a STEM club on Wednesday afternoons.

STEM stands for - Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, and covers all aspects of these subjects.

As part of the club, the students have built towers out of spaghetti, made chemically powered boats and nearly set half of a science classroom on fire!

They have also gone on two trips - an ‘Engineering Extravaganza’ at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Catcliffe, and a ‘STEM for girls’ event at the University of Sheffield.

At AMRC, the group learned about different types of engineering, built small cars, and tried their hand at virtual welding. While at the University of Sheffield, the girls got to see a wide range of interesting bits of engineering and science that they hadn't seen before.

Throughout their time at STEM club, the group have been an absolute credit to themselves and the school - well done!
